SPECIES INFO
The wizarding world is no stranger to different species and creatures, so this is why at Ringfinger we allow our members to create characters of different species. There is a limitation on the number that can be made, but this is just so that our characters remain diverse and as realistic as possible.
Below is a basic description and guideline of playable species, as well as how many are available to play at the current time. Please bear in mind that these descriptions may differ slightly from the books, may adopt ideas from other fandoms and may not be how you are used to playing them. But as much as we want everyone to be happy here, we also want a balance of how these species are played throughout the forum - so there are no differences amongst characters.
Under the light of the full moon, a human affected by the lycanthropy curse changes into a terrifying and savage beast who seeks out humans as its prey. These beasts are known as werewolves. The lycanthropy curse affects witches and wizards only, and werewolves are only made - not born. In order for a person to become a werewolf, they must be bitten by another werewolf under the full moon. The first change happens on the next full moon, unless the affected person drinks the wolfsbane potion.
Changing from human to wolf is excruciating to endure and nauseating to witness. All werewolves nowadays have to drink the wolfsbane potion to avoid transformations (by Ministry law), but there are some 'rogue' types who are out of the Ministry radar and travel around in packs. They are generally more accepted than before, and even werewolf children can now attend Hogwarts. Their wolfsbane intake is monitored closely by the school's matron, however; to ensure they do not transform into the beast.
Werewolves do not produce 'half-werewolf' offspring or anything of the sort. They will be born as normal witches or wizards. However, a scratch or a bite from a werewolf outside of the full moon (when they are in human form) can have side effects. That human who suffered the bite/scratch may have a craving for raw meats, or have 'wolfish' characteristics.
Vampires were never human. They are born and not made. They mostly appear to be human, except for a few distinguishing characteristics: pale, greyish hue to the skin, slightly sunken eyes and nails like glass, as well as sharp fangs instead of canine teeth. Vampires are the only 'being species' that are exempt from the marriage law. They are known to have their own customs and lives, and even though they can wield magic like any wizard can - they have heightened senses and strengths, particularly just after feeding.
There are no half-vampires or anything like that. If a vampire and a human copulate, then they will have a full-bloodied vampire as a child. There may be certain prejudices in the vampire world against vampires who are born from a human parent, but they still have the same abilities as any other vampire.
A vampire must feed on blood to survive, but can consume food and drink just as any human can. They are immortal and cannot die from illness or old age, but they can die from being forcibly killed or a physical accident. The sunlight hurts their skin, but does not burn it. Generally they would be around at night time and sleep during the day.
Not so much a species, but thought it may be useful to put up information about Animagi. These are witches or wizards who can turn into a single animal of their choice, through a process of transfiguration. This is very advanced magic and has a lot of stages to it, but can be achieved by adult wizards. We will not be accepting students as animagi at this time due to the level of skill needed to become an animagus (yes, we realise there were certain students who did achieve it but they are just special haha). All animagi must register with the Ministry of Magic when they achieve their transformation.
We will only be accepting half-veela or less on this site. Veela are, essentially, beautiful humans. Half-veela or less cannot transform into a bestial form, but they do radiate the same sort of allure as full bloodied veela can. This allure sometimes cannot be controlled, but when it's used it can attract a human who is usually attracted to their gender. Sometimes the human can 'lose themselves' and act irrationally, in an attempt to impress the Veela. Others can resist the charms or put it to the back of their heads.
In mythology a Veela could be compared to a succubus or incubus, or a siren.
Exceptionally rare and the best at disguise, a metamorphmagus is a witch or wizard who can change their appearance at will; without the need of a wand or potions. They can change part of their appearance such as hair colour and length, or can go for an all-over body change; completely changing into 'someone else' so to speak. The gene for metamorphmagi is recessive, so it may not show up for generations at a time. But when it does, you'll know instantly if your child has the ability.
Due to its rarity, we are only accepting two of these throughout the forum. First come first serve!
