[PTab=BIOGRAPHY]
A PROMISE CARVED IN STONE
about
• A girl is born. Not an uncommon event, but still a miraculous one, as those who bear witness to it will tell you. It's a special, joyous time for parents and families alike. A little blessing. A new life to influence, and watch grow. Ophelia Quinn was such a girl. Her proud parents were both hardworking individuals of middle-class (and both, coincidentally, a wizard and witch respectively). They were never incredibly well off, but managed just fine all the same. Ophelia grew up within fairly normal circumstances; she attended school, she studied hard, and did her best to help out around the house. She had inherited her mother's quiet nature and sweet tooth - along with her father's stubbornness and (regrettably) height. She had a difficult time making friends due to her somewhat shy nature - but once let in, proved to be a caring and loyal companion. She kept quiet about their more 'magical' household (at her mother's request), and found comfort in the simple spells and history her father would teach her.
• Ophelia always presumed most people in the world were inherently 'good'. Her mother had always stressed the importance of having friends and love in her life from a young age. So despite her shyness and initial hesitance toward the subject, Ophelia came to trust what few friends she was able to make without fail. Which, in hindsight, would come to be her greatest mistake. When she began to develop feelings for a boy in a year above her - Ophelia fought good and hard with herself as to whether or not to come forward with her feelings. Boys were never her strong suit, and Ophelia knew that one of her friends happened to (much to her dismay) also have a crush on this particular boy.
• Grade school romances were nothing to write home about, and after bashful confessions from both sides... gossip spread like a wildfire. They were a "brand new" couple. It was exciting and overwhelming all at once, so she thought nothing of it when several of her female classmates texted her, asking for Ophelia to meet up with them later; they were eager to hear the 'details' and wanted to talk tonight. Ophelia remembered she felt a wave of relief, and her stomach had churned with hopeful excitement at the prospect of new friends. But she would come to find out the hard way that every action had a repercussion. And jealousy is a vicious, dangerous beast...
• Ophelia spent over a month in the hospital. She'd suffered from a broken nose, and two fingers; extensive bruising and a cracked rib, as well as a mild concussion. Her classmates, as it turned out, had not taken Ophelia's news well, and had lured the young girl to the park - only to have her beaten within an inch of her life by a group of six. Cole had been a popular boy, and the girls in his class didn't take the news that he was unavailable (and dating Ophelia of all people) well. She was 'weird' to them, as was her family. Thanks to witnesses, all girls were charged with assault... though that gave Ophelia very little piece of mind, in the grand scheme of things.
• It turns out that a significant blow to her head during the attack had irreparably damaged one of her ear drums. She could make out some muffled tones, inflections and sounds sometimes... but it was definitely hard to hear now. It was terribly frightening and disorienting at first. Ophelia spooked easily and had never felt such confusion in all her life. For the duration of her recovery, she learned how to lip read to make up for her dulled hearing. Her mother and father supported her as best they could - and encouraged Ophelia to take the leap, and attend Hogwarts (as they had). She could be with people like her, and she would be able to leave this horrible experience behind her.
• Ophelia was sorted into Ravenclaw (her father's old house) - and started off her first year incredibly quiet. She was self-conscious about her lack of hearing in one ear, and decided to focus on her studies instead of engaging in some of the shenanigans her peers were getting up to.
• In her second year, she was able to make a few friends; though Ophelia still decided to keep people at a bit of a distance. After all, she had considered the people who had hurt her as 'friends'... the word had mixed meaning now. But nothing so terrible happened to her during the next few years of her attendance. A few boys would tease her now and again, but her housemates would assure her it was just because she was "cute" and "startled easily" because of her faulty hearing.
friends
She's had a few bad experiences with 'friends' in the past, who turned out to be not-so-friendly and not-so-nice. Combined with her initial shyness when meeting or interacting with new people, it's a bit tricky to get to know Ophelia. She's closed herself off a bit... but those who gain her trust get to see a bright, sweet girl who is always willing to help if she can. She has lost her hearing in one ear - so sometimes she may stare intently at you if you're speaking... but it's just so she can make sure she's getting everything you are saying. Hoping to get her a few close buddies and some housemates - as well as people who can get her out of her shell a bit more.
enemies
She may have one or two? Given her quiet nature, it's a bit unlikely. There are some people who might bully or pick on her a bit for being deaf in one ear, or because she's a bit introverted, but she does her best to stay out of the way and not really draw attention to herself. But sure! Maybe she rubs you the wrong way!
lovers
This will definitely be tricky, what with her past and the accident that resulted. She's closed off her heart a bit, tucking it away to ensure it doesn't get broken again. While she hasn't let himself feel love toward anyone else after her attack - Ophelia is just as susceptible to 'those feelings' as anyone. I'd like this poor baby to eventually find someone she can love and is paired with - but it may be a bit of a slow burn with some miscommunications trickled throughout. But I would eventually looooooove to get her a hubby/fiance/intended who can look out for her, or is maybe is a bit of a tough tsundere-esq character. She loves a good challenge, after all, and someone needs to protect this sweet bae from pain.
